Tie Dye Cupcakes

These cupcakes are so pretty and colorful, you can't not smile while eating them. Making them was twice as fun!

My 2 sisters, Kariza and Klea, and I baked these this afternoon. My other sister, Nika, did not join us - she was studying for a Chem exam. It's like, hello, baking is one of the neatest applications of Chemistry!!! But, she was serious so we let her be.

We started with a box of Betty Crocker Yellow Cake Mix. Yes, yes instant cake mix is technically cheating, but hey these things are convenient, easy to make, and they don't taste that bad so I say as long as you add some twist to them, it's all good.

We followed the instructions at the back of the box, divided the batter into six bowls and colored them bright and funky rainbow colors.

We then scooped them layer by layer into the lined cupcake tins. We followed the rainbow: 6 ROYGBV, and the other 6 VBGYOR.

We had enough batter for 24 cupcakes - supposedly. But we got carried away and finished the batter, 12 cupcakes in.

We then popped them in the oven and 20 mins later, we had tie dye cupcakes!:D

Ok ok, they were supposed to be rainbow cupcakes. But since we almost filled the cupcake tins with batter, the top cracked and some of the batter underneath bubbled to the top. So, the result? A splatter of color on top and some color marbling in the center. Now they look more like hippie t-shirts than rainbows.:)

This is how they look when cut open. Some tunneling developed, probably because the batter was overmixed as we were coloring them. But hey! Let's admire the colors instead.:P

We topped them with spoonfuls of Nutella and colored sprinkles. Tada! Tie dye cupcakes!:D

Even the crumbs are pretty.:)
